Dennis was born and raised in Grafton, NSW and is a Chartered Professional Chemical Engineer by qualification and has spent his working career in the Pulp, Paper & Packaging industry, mostly at an executive level and most recently as a consultant to the industry. He has lived and worked extensively abroad associated with his work.
 
Dennis was in Apex for nearly 10 years before being invited to join the Rotary Club of Aspley in Queensland in 1980. He was subsequently a member of the Rotary Club of Traralgon in Victoria before joining the Rotary Club of Hawthorn in District 9800 in 1984. He has served in numerous positions at club level and was President in 2002-3.
 
At District level Dennis was District Governor of District 9800 in 2012-13. He has also served as District Foundation Chair and District Council on Legislation and Resolutions Representative for 2 terms. Previously Dennis served as an Assistant Governor, GSE Team Leader to D5520 (USA) in 2005 and as District GSE Chairman for 4 exchanges. Dennis has also served as Vice-Governor, Secretary, twice Finance Committee Chair, Global Grant Scholar Committee Chair, Club Vision Facilitation Chair and District Chair for Leader Training and currently as Rotary peace fellowship Committee Chair. Beyond club and district roles Dennis has served as RI President’s Representative to D9520 and D3190 (India).   
Currently Dennis is Endowment and Major Gifts Advisor for Zone 8, a Director of Rotary Australia Foundation Ltd and a Vice-Chair and Promotions Director of the Host Organization Committee for the 2023 Rotary Convention.
Dennis is a Recipient of the Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service, a member of the Paul Harris Society of District 9800 and he and Lynda are Major Donors and members of the Bequest Society.
 
Outside of Rotary, Dennis has been involved in a range of Community activities, including the Australian Shareholders’ Association, a volunteer based not for profit organisation that promotes education and ethical representation for retail shareholders and was a Director for some years. He served in a number of community and industry roles associated with Monash University for more than 20 years including the University Council and was honoured to receive the University’s Sir John Monash Medal for distinguished service to engineering education. He remains a Trustee for a Monash University Foundation. He has been involved with Scope (disability support services) and a community retirement village. He was also the recipient of a distinguished service award from the professional organisation of the Australian and New Zealand pulp and paper industry. Dennis has been an industry Council Member of the Standards Association of Australia, and a member of the Environment Committee of the Business Council of Australia, as well as serving in a number of industry associations.  
 
Lynda has invaluably supported Dennis in his work and with Rotary for more than four decades and they are proud parents to two delightful adult daughters and grandparents to four grandchildren, who are the light of their lives.
Outside of Rotary Dennis persists with golf and enjoys walking, photography, family genealogy and travelling (when permitted). Lynda also enjoys travel, gardening and reading.
